Bone Scalpel
The Bone Scalpel is essentially a 2mm osteotome that has been adapted to receive a scalpel blade, and it is used to incise bone. Specifically, in a ridge-split procedure, the surgeon will use the Bone Scalpel to incise cortical bone crestally, from mesial to distal, after he or she has pierced the cortical plate with the 1mm Osteotome and widened the initial crestal opening with the 2mm Osteotome. The Bone Scalpel may also be used in a routine osteotomy to incise the bone, which will relieve stress and pressure as well as encourage rapid angiogenesis into the osteotomy.
